Italian Renaissance Tempera on Parchment Painting Holy Family by Giuseppe Cesari, Circa 1595

A rare & important Italian Renaissance tempera on parchment painting, Giuseppe Cesari Il Cavalier d’Arpino (Giuseppe Cesari, 1568-1640), the painting circa 1595.

This painting is very finely composed and depicts the Holy Family with John the Baptist and two attendant angels, in form this would have been described as a ‘miniature’ in the Renaissance period. The work is executed on vellum with egg tempera, the painting is housed in a gilded 18th century wood & gesso frame under glass, condition is very good indeed, no condition problems or restoration. A rare and important Italian Renaissance painting of the highest quality.
