19th Century Marine Painting “Dry Docket Boat”, Framed

This marine painting has a fairly unusual subject matter that adds a human emotional touch to it. It is signed on the lower right corner but the signature is difficult to decipher.

The back of the canvas is stamped:

Wade street
Leeds

Edmund Bogg was born in 1851 and came to Leeds age 20, setting up a shop supplying artists materials, and a business as a picture dealer and framer at Wade Street, Leeds. Around the late 1890s he set up the Leeds Savage Club, with a handful of other artists, and was elected as its’ president.

The dimensions given are those of the frame. The actual canvas size is 18″ x 12″
