Large Sharkoy Kilim rug. A very large, finely woven Kilim rug from the border region between Serbia and Bulgaria, once part of the Ottoman Empire, where large kilims were woven for centuries as highly sought after floor covers. The designs, featuring stylized plant and animal forms, tree-of-life themes, display a unique synthesis of Turkish Kilim weaving techniques and the local folk traditions.
This rug is a very high quality example dates from the early part of the 20th century and is in a remarkable state of preservation.
