Set of eighteen original hand painted Greek art pottery tiles, circa 1970.
Tiles are abstract in style and feature surrealist figures, faces and mythological characters. Tiles are constructed of red clay, each being hand painted and glazed.
The tiles were purchased in 1970 at the Koula & Dinos Art Gallery in Hydra, Greece. The gallery was known for exhibiting original artwork by Greek nationals. Each is hand signed by artist “Sol”.
The artist of the tiles was undoubtedly influenced by Picasso, with many of the scenes reminiscent of figures in his work.
Each tile measures 5″ tall by 5″ wide by .375″ deep.
Tiles have never been mounted and are in excellent condition.
