A fine antique 18th Century Greek Orthodox icon, egg tempera & gold leaf on wood panel, circa 1750.
The icon depicts the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, to the left is the Angel Gabriel presenting a flower to the Virgin and pointing to the heavens, the Virgin Mary right is kneeling on a cushion in front of an altar with the gospels laid open. Mary with a gilt throne behind her and the dove of peace in the sky, the icon has the inscription upper left “Ο ΕΥΑΓΓΕΛΙCΜΟC” (The Annunciation), with more Greek text below.
The icon is in excellent condition, it is beautifully painted and ready to grace your walls.
