Antique, Art Nouveau bronze of a beautiful maiden in the Neo-Classical manner by Emmanuel Villanis, Circa 1900.
The bronze, titled “Phryne” depicts a beautiful Neo-Classical maiden, titled to the front on the socle. The bust meant to be an interpretation of the ancient Greek beauty Phryne, daughter of Epicles and a model of a number of ancient Greek artists/sculptors. The bronze made by the lost wax (cire perdue) method and having the circular Parisian foundry mark to the vesro and signed “E. Villanis” to the shoulder.
