This rare and striking woodcut print by Robert Pajer-Gartegen, an Austrian artist, depicts a nude male figure in a slender wood boat, using a long pole to move forward in the moonlight. The image is both atmospheric and sensual, demonstrating the artist’s skill and experience with woodcut printmaking. Pajer-Gartegen was friends with Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka and other leading artists of the era, and in 1929 he won Vienna’s ‘Kunstpreis.” The print is signed in the lower righthand corner. Dimensions include the matte and frame; visible print itself is 9.75 inches high by 8.75 inches wide.
